Volunteer Induction Success! 🤗 |
Our three inductions so far this year have all been great experiences! It was particularly wonderful to meet potential volunteers in person at our first face-to-face inductions since 2019, which were held in Melbourne and Sydney over the past month. 41 new volunteers have been inducted so far this year and we look forward to seeing them in sessions soon. If you missed out, sign up for the next induction here.

Hearing from the Health Education Team |
This month, our new Victorian Health Educator, Ruby Rafalowicz, has shared with us her experience starting out with The Water Well Project: "I’ve recently joined The Water Well Project as a Health Educator. It’s felt rewarding to connect with a broad range of communities in settings that are familiar and comfortable for them, whether that’s a mother’s group or an English class.
Before starting, I had wondered if it would be tricky to build rapport or discuss certain topics (such as mental health) in a once-off session. However, I’ve been surprised how generous and eager people are to share their life experiences and knowledge. It’s so useful that we can let a conversation unfold naturally and follow the community’s lead. This makes session content relevant to the group, and in turn the sessions feel meaningful to the facilitators too. It’s a refreshing change from feeling rushed and having a specific agenda to inform clients of in clinical settings! I’m developing some invaluable skills, such as; explaining complicated concepts in Easy English terms and working with interpreters. I’m looking forward to running some sessions with some of you soon!"

Some beautiful reflections 💙 |
“The information sessions run by Health Professionals provide community members with health knowledge that they otherwise would not have known unless they experience health issues and would need to address them. Hopefully, these sessions would help equip them with knowledge that may be useful for them and their families.” ~ Community Representative, St Albans Primary School - Parents Group, Healthy Eating and Nutrition, March 2024
“Its lovely to have an organisation specifically targeting CALD groups with health information. To have medical professionals willing to come and share their knowledge on a wide variety of health topics is extremely valuable, especially as there is no cost to the community group.” ~ Community Representative, CoHealth - Chinese Seniors Group, Diabetes, April 2024
“It was wonderful to engage the participants using roleplays and props, and to have them sharing stories, asking questions, and getting on their feet to participate in some physical activity.” ~Volunteer Healthcare Professional - Chinese Seniors Group, Diabetes, April 2024 “The session was very informative, especially regarding sleep apnoea, I know more information on how to prevent and treat the disease. Thank you”
~ Community Participant, Chin Community Victoria - Sleep, Exercise & Health, April 2024 |
