Dear Friend

Earlier this year we were able to spend time with the children and families of Pilgrim Nursery School in Rwanda on behalf of ohfi.  We were delighted to be able to report back as below.

"It was wonderful to see how well the Poultry Project funded by generous New Zealand donors in 2022 was thriving.

Great progress was evident at the school. The building owner has placed a high fence around the school so that it is more secure. All three grades now have desks and chairs and the teachers’ office is well furnished and stocked.

In addition to the poultry project parents have prepared ground alongside the school and planted vegetables which will be used to provide a meal for the children each day."

This self-empowerment and the community's commitment to the sustainable wellbeing and education of all the children, including orphans and the most vulnerable, was a blessing to witness.

This is why it was especially heartbreaking to learn of the recent Rwandan floods. Lives have been lost, families displaced, and homes turned into memories.

34 families of the lovely children we met have lost their homes.

Thankfully the school building and the poultry are fine however the food being grown for the children has been washed away and funding for new planting is needed.

Our Rwandan partner Pastor Anastase Rugirangoga wrote:

"here is a lot of suffering and trauma for those who survived as they are left with nothing.

Houses were washed away with everything inside.  People are sheltered in churches, schools and tents.

The need is great. Priority needs include – food, blankets, soap, toilet papers, buckets, and basins to fetch water and to wash.  The children are trying to continue coming to school even though it is not easy."

Our collective efforts can have a profound impact, and we invite you to join with us to support this community who have worked so hard. Your donation, no matter the size, can bring hope to those who need it most especially the children and families who have lost their homes. By contributing to our relief efforts, you not only assist in meeting immediate needs but also play a pivotal role in restoring a sense of normalcy to the lives of these children and families.
