Dear ,
Well, these have been strange times indeed. Our thoughts are with you if you have faced hardship or sadness during the lockdown. There was some comfort we hope in the peace and quiet of your garden and neighbourhood, in that pile of unread books or in the projects you found time to work on.
Better times are coming. Soon we can return to planning for walks and tramps in the big outdoors beyond our neighbourhood, and then, beyond our region. We have put together and are keeping up to date an online map of possible encounters with the South Island kōkako. The best recent reports of encounters are at the sites shown. Please take a look when planning your destinations ... and find this bird for us.
We at the South Island Kōkako Charitable Trust will continue our efforts to confirm the bird's presence in southern forests so that this special bird can be conserved appropriately.
But we need your help more than ever. We're inviting you to become a Friend of the Trust. This is a simple way to lend your support, if you can. It will help us support good people like you who have a keen interest in finding the kōkako.
You'll find Friend of the Trust details below.
We'll be back soon to bring you news of the best and most recent possible encounters with the South Island kōkako. For now, we wish you well in these testing times and thank you for your ongoing interest and support.
Inger Perkins
Manager, South Island Kōkako Charitable Trust
