Dear Friend, As always, we hope this finds you and your loved ones well and safe.
The past few weeks were particularly eventful for us here at MOTL and for our community at large. Starting with Yom HaShoah and moving through Yom Hazikaron and finally Yom Ha'atzmaut, we collectively traversed many emotional peaks and troughs, shifting from intense and overwhelming mourning, remembrance and memorialisation through to immense joy, pride, jubilation, triumph and gratitude. Wherever in the world you may be, we hope you were able to commemorate and celebrate these days in personally meaningful and fulfilling ways.

Special Announcement: March of the Living Australia's in-person programs will resume in 2023!
|
After two challenging years of upheaval and cancellations due to the global pandemic, we are extremely thrilled to announce that March of the Living Australia will be resuming its live, in-person programs in 2023! Excitingly, next year's March will coincide with special celebrations of March of the Living's 35th and Israel's 75th anniversaries! In light of these milestone events, and given that many of our fellow delegations around the world will also be resuming their programs, we have no doubt the 2023 March will see record-high participation numbers and that it will be an incredible not-to-be-missed program!
Starting in 2023, we will be shifting our focus to the Young Adult and Adult programs. For the first time ever, March of the Living Australia has committed to providing very substantial subsidisation of the program for all Young Adult participants who may not be able to pay full fare. This is in recognition of the financial challenges many Young Adults, who are potentially only starting out in their careers and who may have been financially impacted by the pandemic, may be facing. This decision by March of the Living Australia to actively raise and dedicate funds in order to make this unique program more accessible and affordable for the 18-35 year-old Young Adult cohort, bears in mind the unique power and impact of this program and the potential it has in shaping the views, opinions, attitudes and proactivity of our future generations and leaders.
We warmly invite you to click here to learn more about the Young Adult and Adult programs. |
Given the shift in focus as outlined above, it is with great sadness we announce that, as of 2023, we will no longer be offering the Student program. Since its inaugural iteration in 2001, the Student Program has been at the core of March of the Living Australia's educational focus. Through the two week program, as well as the extensive educational curriculum our student participants underwent before they embarked, we endeavoured to provide them with an emotional and intellectual growth spurt that would lay the foundation for enhanced involvement and awareness on numerous levels, both personally and in their communities.
In light of this decision, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the many, many educators, madrichim & madrichot, staff members, and of course, survivors, who allowed us to realise our vision for the student program over the past 20 years, but more importantly, for the huge positive impact you had on each and every one of these young people's lives. We very much look forward to continuing our programs for Young Adults aged 18-35, and Adults aged 36+, for many more years to come. |

Yom HaShoah | Yom Hazikaron | Yom Ha'atzmaut 2022 - Summary of MOTL & Community Events - |
As always, a varied and significant array of events, both local and international, in-person and online, were held in honour of these important days in calendar. These events moved us, challenged us, gave us pause to honour, memorialise and commemorate, and to ultimately celebrate the incredible spirit and achievements of the Jewish people and its homeland Israel.
Of note, we would like to make particular mention of the following events which we warmly invite you to view if you were unable to at the time: -
Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) and Zikaron BaSalon's co-sponsored event - "From Australia to New York: Bringing Holocaust Survivors to Living Rooms Around the World", featuring Survivor Abe Goldberg OAM from Melbourne - Click here to view the recording of this special event.

ISRAWOW | The Israeli Code Challenge: A virtual escape room for Israel 74 |
Each year, the March of the Living proudly holds Independence Day events in Israel, with thousands of participants from across the globe. Unfortunately, particular circumstances have meant that events have had to be hosted on a more limited scale this year.
International March of the Living brainstormed heavily to find a way to convey the Israeli experience to everyone, and youth in particular, including for people who could not attend the March in person.
Their efforts culminated in "ISRAWOW | THE ISRAELI CODE CHALLENGE", an entertaining virtual escape room developed to acquaint you with Israel in a unique way. We warmly invite you to partake in this fun challenge, which is now live!
|
Excitingly, participants who solve the challenge will be entered into a raffle to win one of three flight tickets to Israel!! |

Participants required for Monash University's Oral History Project for Melbourne's Holocaust Survivor community and their children
|
Monash University's Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation has launched a new oral history project to help shed light on the experiences of Melbourne's Holocaust survivor community and their descendants. Rather than focusing on the years of the Holocaust, this unique interview project explores the lives of survivors and their children in Melbourne after the war.

This project provides an opportunity to have your voices heard. Your participation could help the ACJC better understand the impact of the Holocaust on your family and the Australian-Jewish community. |
