Welcome to the final e-bulletin of 2023! As we mark the end of another great 12 months, I'd like to take this opportunity to say a very heartfelt thank you to everyone who supports us during the year - from the team themselves, our fabulous Board of Trustees, all our volunteers (over 120 of them!), our members, business supporters and funders. He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata! What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people. Ngā mihi Caroline Budge, Manager |

It's not too late to get one of our wonderful calendars. These feature the profiles of 12 of our members from our Beyond the Face exhibition. January also features a fun photo of the Age Concern staff revealing our hobbies and interests. Finish & Start Dates for Age Concern Activities |
Our activities will have a brief break over the Christmas break and resume in January. Thanks so much to everyone who has attended these over the course of the year. |
Volunteer Christmas Morning Tea |
On Tuesday December the 12th we hosted a Christmas afternoon tea for our volunteers. This is something we do at the end of each year as a way of saying thank you to our volunteers and acknowledging the value of all they do for Age Concern Nelson Tasman.
We also took the opportunity to recognize those volunteers who have been with us for a length of time. The 22 people who have volunteered for five years and the 3 who have been with us for 10 years were awarded a certificate and a gift.
As always it was a lovely afternoon sharing good food, good stories, great conversations and plenty of laughter. It's always a pleasure to catch up face to face with the people who volunteer for us. They're a wonderful group and we are privileged to have them. |

Referral Forms on Website |
|
|
We've made it easier to refer people to our various services via our website. It's been upgraded recently and all services now have an online referral form. Manager Caroline said it was the latest step in improving access to the agency, keeping up with technology and expectations. 'We want as few barriers as possible to reach us, and these new online forms will help with that.'
Referral forms are available for our Visiting Service, Older Drivers events, the Elder Abuse Response and Care & Repair. If you're interested in volunteering, this can also be done online. All referrals are found in their page on the website here. |
Christmas Tea & Talk with Richmond Primary |
What a lovely celebration we had up at Church on the Hill in Dorset Street, Richmond, earlier this week. Our Tea & Talk, which usually meets in our Hall, made the trip up to the church and were joined by students from Richmond Primary. We were also lucky enough to have a fabulous team of helpers from the staff of Habit Health. It was so great to see the intergenerational connections occurring, and the very cute Jasper, a dachshund puppy! |

Thanks so much to everyone who made a donation towards our Xmas Care Packages. We had a great team from Habit Health help us create over 60 packages and they also helped with distributing them. It is so heartwarming to see the joy these packages bring to those who receive them. |

Elder Abuse with Hanny Naus |
Elder Abuse is misunderstood, and difficult to spot, with many common forms often going unnoticed. These include psychological and financial abuse, as well as the more talked about physical elder abuse. Olivia talked to Age Concern New Zealand's Educator of Elder Abuse and Neglect, Hanny Naus about this issue. Hanny discussed the means of identifying possible abuse, and what people can do if they do suspect it. Click here to listen to the interview. |
