Your update from the Mental Health Foundation
Kia ora Friend,
Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) will be 23 September and this year the theme is:
Explore your way to wellbeing - Whāia te ara hauora, Whāia te ara oranga, Whitiora.
MHAW is a great opportunity to explore what experiences, actions, relationships and surroundings make you feel good and uplift your mental wellbeing! When our wellbeing is strong, our whānau, communities and Aotearoa can flourish too. Register now to get yourself, your workplace, school, whānau or community involved!
Also, Last month the Government released the Wellbeing Budget. We are pleased there will be an increased focus on the determinants of poor mental health – like housing, poverty and domestic violence. Read the Mental Health Foundation's full response.

Patua te Whakama | Remove shame
Last year, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Volcanoes Sports Club hosted a Youngies vs. Oldies Netball Day based around the slogan 'Patua te Whakama' or 'remove shame'.
Funded by the Mental Health Foundation's Like Minds, Like Mine Community Grant, the event focused on connecting generations to break down barriers, remove shame, and share advice around mental distress.
We sat down with Monique and Jamie to find out more.
There have been a number of discriminatory news items using mental health patients as the scapegoats for violence in New Zealand hospitals.
Referred to as dangerous, unsafe, and unpredictable, Kiwi patients were often talked about but never interviewed in any of these stories.
We decided to share their voices and perspectives in a feature-length article with journalist Alison Mau - read the full article here.
Thanks for making Pink Shirt Day Aotearoa brighter and bolder!
On Friday 17 May, Aotearoa turned into a sea of pink to Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora - Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying.
Thousands of workplaces accessed our bullying prevention resources, held a Pink Shirt Day morning tea and used the Diversi-tea Kōrero Starter cards.
Massive thanks to our campaign partners - Cotton On who raised close to $300,000 for the campaign through tshirt sales, Toll NZ for contributing to courier costs, Flight Centre who turned pink for the day, and Auckland Airport for funding a community Pink Shirt Day event at Manurewa Marae in South Auckland.
Lace up your running shoes for mental health!
Sign up to one of the running events taking place around Aotearoa. Cross the beautiful Queenstown International Marathon off your bucket list or cross the Harbour Bridge at the ASB Auckland Marathon! If you're not a runner, grab your mates and walk the 10km, 21km, or full 42km.
Find a event near you or get in touch with the team.
Thank you
