States regulate charity lotteries and raffles. So please check with the appropriate state regulator.

Some quick tips:

• Only non-profit organisations can hold raffles

• Tobacco based products, firearms, and cosmetic surgery prizes are banned

• Limits to liquor prizes with age restrictions to ticket buyers

• If you intend to sell tickets in a street or public place you may need permission from your local council and public liability insurance

• Every person who has purchased a ticket should have an equal chance of winning a prize

You will need: 

• A full description stating the nature and value of each prize
• The permit number obtained from your state authority (if required)
• The beneficiary and purpose of the raffle
• A sequential number
• Any conditions attached to the prizes
• The date, time and location of the draw
• Where and when the results will be published

If your Raffle is Australia wide, you may need to comply with multiple state regulations.

Vega will supply a process description to show your regulator how Vega helps you manage your raffle. Vega should make getting a license easy if you satisfy the criteria.

Depending on the value of your raffle, you may need a license from the Department of Internal Affairs in New Zealand or your state government in Australia. See the attached list of references.

For Vega, you will need a Vega account, and a Stripe® account for processing payments.

Vega will produce "page inserts" called widgets for your web site. If you don't have easy access to a website, you can still format and use the Vega pages.

Vega will help you set up a Stripe® account and link this to Vega. There is no cost to setup Stripe.

Raffles are all about promotion. Having exciting prizes and a good cause can generate real revenue for your organisation, but you need to promote it. Vega can really help with that.

You will create documents from Vega templates that allow you to issue Tickets, acknowledge purchasers and do other "engagement and fulfilment" tasks. Everything is explained in Vega documentation.

• How many tickets you will try and sell
• The value of your prizes
• The total value of your sales
• The ticket numbers you wish to issue

You are ready to set your raffle up in Vega. You will also know whether you need a license. The Vega License Pack contains a guide that will help you get a license if one is needed.

When your Raffle is finished, you run your DRAW through Vega and your winner(s) are selected and displayed. Vega will audit and verify your raffle and randomly draw winners from the available pool.
