Kia ora Friend, It's safe to say we've been busy here at LegaSea.
We've just had a massive weekend at the Hutchwilco New Zealand Boatshow, with the LegaSea stand possibly the busiest we've ever seen. The event was organised incredibly well as per usual and it's only fair we give a huge shoutout to the new owners XPO and the rest of the Boatshow team!
We were fortunate enough to have our stand donated to us by the Boatshow crew and it became a bustling hub of activity with pizza, giveaways, Barkers merchandise, talks about the state of our fisheries and LegaSea messaging everywhere you looked. Our engagement wall was plastered with over three thousand snapper from supporters trying to guess where Johnny the John Dory and his four scaly mates were hiding. What an amazing event! |
Where's Johnny? Just off Motuihe Island |
This year at the LegaSea stand at the Boatshow we ran a 'Where's Johnny?' campaign where visitors were invited to guess where Johnny the John Dory and his four scaly mates were hiding in the Hauraki Gulf. People were encouraged to enter to win some incredible prizes by simply pinning a snapper with their details on our enormous map of the Hauraki Gulf.
With an abundance of Snapper in the gulf we often forget about the other amazing species that we're hardly seeing in the Hauraki Gulf and around New Zealand - Gurnard, John Dory, Tarakihi, Hāpuku and Trevally. Where have they gone?
With more than 3500 entries the team was pretty busy helping attendees pin up snapper for their guesses. While this may have seemed like an opportunity for us to find everyone's best fishing locations, the actual goal was to get as close as possible to the hidden fish and win some great prizes. |

We can now announce our winners and we'd love to congratulate Michael C. for finding Johnny, Michael N. from Glenfield for finding the Hāpuku, Huia from Tauranga who found the Tarakihi, Hayden from Silverdale who found the Gurnard and Tracey from Cornwallis who tracked down Trev the Trevally.
Thanks to our partners Makita, Barkers, NZ Fishing News and The Ironclad Pan Co. for a mighty fine selection of giveaways!

Our Kai Ika team will be running another fish filleting clinic with the support of Barkers at Brother's Brewery in Akiraho Street, Mount Eden tomorrow night and we'd be stoked if you would join!
Kicking off at 6 pm, we'll have some time to have a few beers and a bit of a mingle before the Barkers and LegaSea team talk through our partnership and the Kai Ika Project. Then we'll have our main man Dave Ahoia on the tools showing us what he does best - filleting fish.
