A DIRECTORY FOR EXECUTORS |
If you suddenly find yourself saddled with the task of executor of an estate it can be rather daunting. There is an organisation that provides assistance, and it is free. My Trove has developed a site to enable people to notify multiple organisations of the death of a relative or friend and start the process of account closures and other requirements with each notified organisation. DO YOU HAVE INSULATION IN YOUR HOME? |
Did you know that the Government provides a subsidy for some homeowners who want to get their underfloor and ceiling insulated, or install a heat pump? They have recently expanded the number of homes eligible for the subsidy. You might now qualify.
Warmer Kiwi Homes offers grants of 50%-90% off insulation and up to 90% off a heat pump for eligible households. We're working with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) to help you find out more about this.
Age Concern can help you find out if you are eligible for a grant. If you own your own home and would like to find out if you're eligible, please call 04 499 6646 (press option 5) or email ceo@acwellington.org.nz for more information.

WATER METERS ARE SOME WAY DOWN THE TRACK |
Concern has been developing for some, and questions raised regarding the proposed roll out and costs for the planned introduction of water meters in the Wellington region. The proposal has been announced as part of the establishment of the new water company, Tiaki Wai which officially began operations on 1 July 2026.
Tiaki Wai is the new council-owned company established as a water organisation under the Local Government (Water Services) Act 2025, which is responsible for providing drinking water supply, wastewater and stormwater services to the Wellington metropolitan area from 1 July 2026. It owns water assets and infrastructure transferred from five councils: (Greater Wellington, Wellington City, Porirua City, Hutt City, and Upper Hutt City).
Property owners are already paying for water services through their rates paid to councils. From 1 July 2026, the cost of those water services will instead be charged separately by, and paid directly to, Tiaki Wai. One of the activities proposed for Tiaki Wai has been the installation of water meters throughout the region that Tiaki Wai covers.
Tiaki Wai admits that this will take several years to implement, and there is public debate over the cost of the proposed meters and questions about the suggested cost estimates for their installation across the region. Read more about this here (click here)...

The Wellington City Council is asking residents for their views on whether councils across the Wellington region should merge as part of proposed local government reforms. The Government has asked councils to consider new ways of working together, and community feedback will help shape any future proposal. No decisions have been made, and this is an opportunity for Wellingtonians to share what matters most to them, including local representation, services, and rates.
Feedback is open until 19 July, and anyone interested can take part online or attend a community forum. Click here to share your views in the survey... |
