It was great to have Rose Glassock join our All Member zoom meeting earlier this month. Rose focussed our thinking on the Connect tier of DAA's Connect.Move.Live and gave us insight into how we connect with each other. Thank you Rose!  A copy of her presentation can be downloaded here.

Our next all member zoom is scheduled in August and will focus on the second tier, Move.

Pink Up Paynesville

Eighty Paddlers, 4 Boats and Three States

The Pink Up Paynesville weekend over the June long weekend was a resounding success. Despite gale force winds on the Saturday, we still managed to have three paddles over the next two days. On Sunday, the winds were strong but we paddled on the Mitchell in relative shelter most of the day. We scheduled a paddle around Paynesville on Monday morning.

And, as for the social program - the Yacht Club filled with smiles and the smell of homemade soup and sausage rolls for lunch on the Saturday. Paddlers did their own thing on Saturday afternoon and explored the local area. On Saturday night, the Cruiser Club filled with colour and laughter for dinner. There were raffles, a few trivia questions and games that led to a light hearted and frivolous evening. Sunday lunch at our clubrooms in Bairnsdale provided respite from the cold conditions and gave us all a chance to regroup from the morning paddle and get ready for the afternoon paddle.

The fun and camaraderie over the weekend was fantastic. We had paddlers from Hobart, Illawarra, the Peninsula, Docklands, Geelong and Mildura.

On reflection, the concept was very good – a chance for everyone to get away and mix with likeminded people. I think we have a great pro-forma for a long weekend event and we are happy to share the template to help other groups run a similar event.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our event and made it such a success!

The Board of DAA are committed to working closely with all State and Territory Dragon Boat bodies, to see how we can mutually support and assist one another to increase participation and enjoyment of our wonderful sport.

To help serve this aim we would like to appoint a State representative to liaise with each dragon boating State body around issues that are specific to us, such as advocating for Breast Cancer Survivor composite crews in regattas. If you are passionate about BCS paddling and have some great ideas, let's talk!

National Paddle Daze

October Breast Cancer Awareness is an opportunity for DAA and all member groups to conduct a social awareness campaign that galvanises the positive spirit and fun of our sport.

This is an opportunity to build on relationships with McGrath Nurses, YWCA Encore Facilitators, showcase local stories and drive newbies and alumni to come in your boats.

You can be as creative and innovate as you want and a guide will be circulated soon.

Virtual Paddle Daze

Stay tuned for more about this virtual paddle! This will be a fantastic online event for members and alumni who cannot get down to the on-water events. Thanks to Zoom, we can still connect, share stories and  have FUN!

Mark your calendars now! Starting Saturday 1st October and ending Saturday 29th October.
