DO YOU HAVE INSULATION IN YOUR HOME?

Did you know that the Government provides a subsidy for some homeowners who want to get their underfloor and ceiling insulated, or install a heat pump? They have recently expanded the number of homes eligible for the subsidy. You might now qualify.

Warmer Kiwi Homes offers grants of 50%-90% off insulation and up to 90% off a heat pump for eligible households. We're working with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) to help you find out more about this.

Age Concern can help you find out if you are eligible for a grant.

If you own your own home and would like to find out if you're eligible, please call 04 499 6646 (option 5) or email ceo@acwellington.org.nz for more information.

DO YOU QUALIFY FOR A RATES REBATE?

A rates rebate is a partial discount on a rates bill (you pay less for your rates). You may be eligible for a rates rebate if you own your home and are on a low income.

Whether you’re eligible and how much you get depends on, for example:

  • the total amount of rates you pay
  • how many dependants live with you
  • your total household income before tax
  • the ownership of your property
  • your living situation
  • if you have a SuperGold card.

Applications for rates rebates are assessed and approved by councils around New Zealand. If your application is successful, you will get a rebate.

Once you receive your rates bill, you can apply for a rebate for the current rating year period 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026. Your application is due to the council by 30 June 2026.

For more information: visit Rates Rebates

KEEPING CASH LOCAL

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand is seeking public feedback on a proposal to introduce a cash services standard that would apply to all New Zealand’s banks. The standard would set a floor under the number and location of places where bank customers can withdraw, deposit and swap cash (for example, exchanging a $50 banknote for $5 banknotes and coins).

You can have your say on a cash services standard that will make sure you can easily withdraw and deposit cash and get coins for free, no matter where you live. The closing date for feedback is 26 July.

UPPER HUTT COMMUNITY MEDICAL DRIVING SERVICE

Stephanie Dunce is the coordinator for a voluntary service called Upper Hutt Community Medical driving service. This free service provides transport for people needing assistance to get to medical appointments in the Wellington Region

Stephanie currently has four drivers, all police vetted, to drive people to the hospital or medical appointments, stay with them and bring them home again. This is a free service, but a donation towards the cost of petrol would be appreciated.

Stephanie assesses the situation and will accept or decline on a case by case basis.

Stephanie has been volunteering driving for the past 26 years taking cancer patients for treatment. She had 35 drivers at one stage, but Covid changed that, so she is always looking for new volunteers.

Contact Stephanie at 027 465 2743.
