25th Anniversary Celebrations |
|
|
Wooo hoo, we are pleased to advise that progress is being made towards our 25th Anniversary Celebrations!
It had been hoped that celebrations would be held on Darling Harbour, however due to circumstances beyond our control we will be holding our paddling event on Saturday 30th September 2023 at Tench Reserve, Penrith, NSW.
It is hoped that paddlers will arrive in Penrith on the Friday in time for some sight-seeing during the afternoon and for a Meet & Greet Friday evening. The paddling event at Tench Reserve will be held on the Saturday with dinner and dancing Saturday evening back in Penrith. It would be great if you can stay around for something special Sunday.
Stay tuned for more information including accommodation, which will be circulated in coming weeks. |

DAA Connect at the AusDBF National Championships |

By Dr Vivienne J Williams PhD |

It was a true honour and great surprise to be asked by the DAA Board to be both the Flag Bearer at the Opening Ceremony of the AusDBF Nationals in Albury in April and then to be Team Captain for the DAA Connect Team. Albury turned on beautiful weather at the Gateway Lakes for the Opening Ceremony and Flag Bearing Ceremony at 7am on the Saturday morning. It was a privilege to be included with all the State representatives and their respective flags. We were then able to watch the State versus State races, which everyone had trained so hard for. DAA Connect had a Team gathering that evening to, for the first time, see who was in our Team. Some paddlers were old friends and some were to become new friends very quickly. It was such a privilege to be amongst such dedicated, responsive, friendly, open and inclusive women who only wanted to be a part of something special over that weekend.
On the first day we had our 500m races, for those of you who have never paddled |

at Gateway Lakes; it's quite an experience paddling through the chalky murky waters of the Lake and hard work for us all.
The Breast Cancer Survivors Teams were, Sydney Spirit, I understand a newly formed team, Missabitatitti from Queensland, always a formidable challenge and ourselves. However, at the end of the day DAA Connect had achieved a remarkable Silver medal, through true grit and determination to work together and for each other in the boat. The second day arrived with a few tweeks to the plan and seat changes and we were off again to show our strength and abilities in the 200m races.
We raced our hearts out with joy and camaraderie supporting each other as only Breast Cancer Survivors can. It didn't mean we eased up on the competition showing our determination to do no less than the previous day and so further Silver medals were achieved on Day 2. |

Auschamps Silver Medalists |
I want to personally thank Jaine Butera from Coast Busters, Janet Elovaris from DA Melbourne Phoenix, Janette Fry from Blue Mountains Dragon Boat Club, Lisa Gullick DA Sydney, Frances Heaney DA Canberra and Sweep extraordinaire, Sandi Johnstone DA Sydney, Sue Juraszak DA Melbourne Phoenix, Wynette Monserrat, DAA, Leanne Murray, Coast Busters, Anne Owen, Coast Busters, Andrea Seers DA Melbourne Phoenix, and Kim Tito, DA Canberra who showed their love support for each other and worked as a wonderful team-thank you, I was blessed to be with you all.
My expectations for my visit to Albury and participation in the Nationals were simple, be there - be there for my fellow paddlers and be there to show how proud we all were to paddle for DAA, and oh yes have fun along the way.
Thank you DAA for the opportunity. Vivienne Williams |
