Volunteer News

Greetings and best wishes fellow Kairos volunteers.

March has been a busy time preparing teams for upcoming Short Courses and Guest Weekends.  It has been wonderful to see our Lord's plans for growth and renewal slowly coming to fruition in his time.

It has been an exciting time with the inaugural Kairos Inside team for South Coast completing their team formation. The team bonded well and successfully conducted their first Short Course at South Coast Correctional Centre on 23 to 26 March. We welcomed the first twenty four graduates into our Kairos Inside South Coast Correctional Centre community. The team are looking forward to the upcoming reunion and the commencement of regular Journey programs. Thank you Jesus.

There is a great report on KI Fulham in Victoria coming together to regroup and have a refresher - have a read on the News page on the website here.

KO Hunter completed their team formation earlier this month and will be holding their Guest Weekend at the end of this month - 27 to 29 March. Please join with me in praying for the team and guests – for safety in travel and open hearts and minds to receive the good news of God's love and forgiveness and the blessings which Jesus is waiting to shower on them.

The Lords plans for Kairos Outside ministry in Queensland are slowly being revealed and it is exciting to be able to assist the three communities.  I was blessed to be able to spend time in the Wide Bay Capricorn Region in Queensland and to spend time with eleven members of their community on 21 February in Rockhampton.  See picture below. It was a privilege to work beside them as we worked our way through the Vision, Mission, Core Values and Statement of Faith for KPMA and commenced planning for their Region's volunteers to be considered for team on the upcoming KO North Queensland Guest Weekend which is being run in September.  Planning for a Guest Weekend to be run in Yeppoon in March 2027 also commenced.

The North Queensland Guest Weekend will comprise members of all three Queensland committees. Guests who have been patiently waiting will have a choice of Guest Weekend locations to choose from: Tully in September 2026, Yeppoon in March 2027 and Sydney in either May or November.

The Southeast Queensland KO community is currently receiving the highest number of website enquiries.

The members of all three communities are stepping out in faith and I'm trying to assist without getting in our Lords way.

Prayer points

Manuals

The rollout of the manuals is continuing. The White Manuals for KO needed to be recalled and are being rebound to rectify an issue with the bindings. These manuals are being redistributed to our Kairos Outside Regions at no cost to Kairos.

The KI Plum Manual rollout will continue once this issue has been addressed. Please pray that the distribution of the White Manuals and the rollout of the Plum Manuals will be completed without further incidents.

KI Parklea

Unfortunately, the final Short Course for Parklea is not proceeding due to staff shortages pending the transition from private to Government management. The Parklea Kairos volunteers are having a well-earned rest in anticipation of recommencing Short Course delivery in 2027 once the transfer of management has been completed. Please pray that these volunteers will be refreshed in mind body and spirit during their break.

Upcoming Programs

KO Sydney, KI Mid North Coast (men's), KI Tamworth, KI Dillwynia, KI Mobilong and KI Port Augusta are in the process of completing their team formation days. Please pray that these may be completed without disruption and for the health and well-being of team members and the leadership groups.

Please pray for the team members of KO Perth as they prepare to commence team formation.

KI Clarence Needs Volunteers

KI Clarence are in the process of planning for their inaugural Short Course later this year. Please join with me in praying that support in the form of experienced volunteers offering to make themselves available to be on team will be forthcoming, and that the leadership group, Advising Leader and Core team member roles are to be filled. Lord, we trust in you and the plans you have for this Kairos community.

National Conference

The KPMA National Conference working group has now finalised the conference registration details and the registration form should be available on the KPMA website soon. The National Conference is being held in Adelaide on 28 to 30 August. I am looking forward to catching up with representatives from each of our Regional Committees. It will be a time of fellowship, learning, celebration and listening to amazing testimonies. Please consider spending extra days in Adelaide to explore this beautiful city. Please pray that planning for this conference will proceed smoothly and that it is well attended.

Volunteers

Please join me in praying for all our volunteers as they travel to attend team formation, program training and to participate in Short Courses and Guest Weekends.

Online Learning

We pray for the three students from Excelsia College University in Sydney who are collaborating with us in preparing the content for online modules which volunteers will be able to access. We pray also for Sarah and Bruce from our Kairos Support Office who are supervising and reviewing their work. It is an exciting partnership.

Kairos in the Media

We give thanks for the wonderful response we have had to our media releases and for the opportunities we have been given to speak about our ministry in both radio and printed media.

Thank you everyone for your amazing commitment, dedication, and willingness to step out in faith placing your trust in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I feel honoured to be able to walk with you and work with you as we continue to be Christ 's hands and feet with our eyes fixed on him.

Blessings and best wishes for a peace filled and Holy Easter.

Chair's Easter Message

An Easter message from our KPMA Chair Colin Stiller

As we meditate in this season of lent on the events of the passion of our Lord, I would like to use Paul's message to the church in Corinth as recorded in 1Corinthians 1:18-25.

Christ Crucified Is God's Power and Wisdom

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:

"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."

Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

The church in Corinth in the first century AD (in Greece) was among a flourishing and vibrant society. There were many alternate ideologies that were alive and well in this city, from belief in the Greek pantheon of gods in charge of every dimension of life, to those who espoused other forms of Greek thinking emanating from the Greek philosophers: Socrates, Plato and Aristotle to name the most well-known three. Plato was the student of Socrates, and Aristotle the student of Plato.

While it is not necessary to delve into the central teachings of these early philosophers, they did have a commonality of thought based on logic, reason and critical thinking. Critical thinking was the reason Socrates was executed with hemlock. He was said to be "corrupting the youth".

Paul's message to the church there now begins to make sense. The academics of the day could not come to believe that Jesus could possibly rise from death. This premise goes against all logic and reason. So, the experts of the day concluded that Christians were "foolish", to use Paul's words.

Yet, this lone truth (Christ rose from death) is the very Power of God. Everything else Paul knew in his extensive learning he puts aside and regards this truth to be above all else (1Cor 2:2).

We have a plethora of "experts" on any given matter in society today. Nothing much has changed with humanity. As an ecumenical Christian ministry, we stand on common ground with the simple but profound message. Christ crucified and RISEN and because of this, God's Grace is offered to all; salvation for a new life now and with the hope of eternal life with Him in heaven.

Now read our Mission Statement above and know that this parallels Paul's mission strategy. We do not need to be experts, academics grounded in logic, reason and critical thinking, just witnesses to what Jesus has done in our life.

God bless you all over this Easter period and beyond.

KI South Coast #1

Let us celebrate the success of the inaugural Short Course held at Nowra this month!!

We have learnt to be patient and wait on the Lord after 10 years of prayer we were finally able to enter the South Coast Correctional Centre and minister to twenty four inmates.

The team came from Sydney, Southern Highlands, and the South Coast of New South Wales to participate in team formation and delivering the Short Course. The Illawarra and South Coast Churches have embraced the ministry and provided unbelievable support.

City Church in Nowra provided access to kitchen facilities and a home base for volunteers during the Short Course.

Hope Centre at the Anglican Church in Nowra has been the home base for team formation.

Forty-six people registered to attend the closing ceremony.

Technology

Email Scams

There Have been quite a few email frauds which have impacted our volunteers lately. Our Operations Manager Bruce Bond has put together tips on how to deal with these.

Key Indicators of Email Scams

1. Check the Sender's Email Address:

Scammers often use email addresses that look similar to legitimate ones but may contain slight variations or random characters. Always verify the sender's address by hovering over it to see the full email address.

2. Generic Greetings:

Phishing emails often use impersonal greetings like "Dear Customer" instead of your name. Legitimate organisations usually address you by your name.

3. Urgent or Threatening Language:

Be cautious of emails that create a sense of urgency or fear, prompting you to act quickly. Phrases like "immediate action required" or "your account will be suspended" are red flags.

4. Unexpected Attachments or Links:

Avoid clicking on links or downloading attachments from unknown senders.  Hover over links to see the actual URL before clicking.

5. Poor Grammar and Formatting:

Many phishing emails contain spelling mistakes, awkward phrasing, or poor for matting. These are signs of a scam.

6. Check Contact Information:

Look for legitimate contact information in the email. If the email claims to be from a company, verify the contact details by visiting the company's official website. Don't click on the links in the email.

7. Branding Quality:

Examine the logos and images in the email. If they appear pixelated or of low quality, it may indicate a scam.

Policy and Guidelines

We have now finalised the acceptable use email procedures.  See MyKairosOz.
