Volunteer News

Greetings everyone.

September and October have been extremely busy months for us all. Since I returned from my annual leave, I have had the privilege to spend time with members of the Kairos Outside community in North Queensland and then spend a week in Brisbane. I attended the Brisbane 30th Celebration event at Redeemer Lutheran Christian College and spent a week with Col and Robyn Stiller along with CEO of Kairos Prison Ministry International Evelyn Lemly.

Col, Evelyn and I then travelled to Sydney for meetings with our major donors. We also attended the Sydney 30th Celebration event at Stanhope Anglican Church at which we were joined by over 200 participants - both existing volunteers, active and retired, and those who had heard the radio advertisements and felt a prompting to attend.

In late September Jackie Stoneman and I attended a meeting with NSW Corrective Services in Sydney to discuss the content and preparation of a new Memorandum of Understanding between Kairos NSW State Council and NSW Department of Corrective Services. It is hoped that this document will be signed by 31 December. It will grant us permission to liaise with Governors in all prisons in NSW. Thank you, Lord, for your abundant blessings and opening doors!  Both the donors and the Assistant Commissioner were extremely supportive of our ministry and keen to know more about our activities and the ministry itself.

In late October I flew down to Adelaide to join with Col and attend the final 30th Celebration event at Burnside Uniting Church. The Adelaide community has been very hospitable, and the event was well supported with over 100 people attending despite heavy rainfall during the day. Please join with me in congratulating and thanking both the 30th Anniversary Committee Chair Terry Clancy, the committee members, the local event coordinators and State Chairs - Joan, Jackie and Hugo for MCing the events.

The anniversary events have been a wonderful opportunity for us all to come together to celebrate and encourage one another. It has been a privilege to spend time with so many of our volunteers. You are all amazing and I thank you for your unwavering commitment and dedication to our ministry.

Praise the Lord for overseeing the successful completion of Short Courses at Goulburn, Port Augusta Mannus and Alexander Maconochie Correctional Centres and for the successful completion of Guest Weekends in Canberra and New England.

Please join me in praying for the KI Dillwynia, KI Mobilong, KI Mid North Coast Womens and KO Sydney teams as they continue their Team Formations in preparation for conducting Short Courses and Guest Weekends in November.

Please consider signing up for the prayer rosters for these four programs.

Thank you for the opportunity to work and walk beside you all as we continue to be Christs hands and feet delivering His messages of love hope and forgiveness.

Training

Advanced Kairos Training - AKT

AKT Training The first round of AKT training has been locked in for both Kairos Inside and Kairos Outside leadership teams and Regional Committee members.

  • AKT for Kairos Inside volunteers will be run on 30 January to 1 February 2026 at Golden Grove Healing Centre in Newtown NSW. Contact AKT Coordinator Ken Moore - aktki@kairos.org.au or 0411513204.
  • AKT for Kairos Outside volunteers will run on 6 to 8 March 2026 at the Pines Tuross Heads NSW. Contact KO AKT Coordinator Coraine Sopru - aktko@kairos.org.au or 0418832988.

Just a reminder upcoming leaders and observing leaders need to attend an AKT before they can be ratified to lead and they are not able to commence team formation until they have been ratified by their respective State Council. Advising leaders need to be AKT current or have led a program within the last 12 months to be eligible to take up an advising leader position on a team.

EZRA Support

EZRA support - Jan, Lex and Kylie are always available to assist with any issues leaders may be having. Please do not hesitate to contact them and they will be able to walk you through the issues. Jan has also asked me to remind leaders that the EZRA training videos are an excellent way to familiarise yourself with EZRA.  If you have any issues preparing your pass on files, please contact the team.

Hubs and Community Events

It was fabulous to see so many people take up the opportunity to view the 30th Anniversary Celebration Events in their community hubs. Feedback we have received was that the hubs were a fantastic community event and numbers attending were excellent. Let's celebrate the wonderful engagement:

Ulladulla 41, Tamworth 43, Port Macquarie 50 and Perth 22 were the standout Regions.  Thanks so much everyone!  More photos below.

The Regional Committees in the Hunter organised a bus to bring 23 volunteers who are involved in KI from St Heliers and KO Hunter communities to the Sydney event.

Congratulations to KO Canberra for organising a successful bush dance as a fundraiser. Over 70 adults and 10 children attended and by all accounts had a wonderful time.

Congratulations to KO Sydney for another successful Trivia night and Bunnings BBQ.

Agape

It is wonderful to see such beautiful agape being shared both in Australia and overseas.

Our National Agape Coordinator has asked me to remind you that agape should have only first names of those signing. Surnames should not be given

Empowering You

Prayer Support

Prayer is what underpins all the work of Kairos and we need to continue to build prayer support.  For your next Zoom prayer meeting or organised prayer meeting with your church groups or bible study group, consider the following idea to help with the prayer time. The next time your growth group or bible study is having a supper and prayer night with a mission focus, to help with the prayer time, give everyone a Kairos Inside or Kairos Outside brochure during supper,

and ask them to pick a few possible prayer points from their brochure.  During the round-robin prayer time,
each person prays for one of their selected prayer points.  What a wonderful way to cover Kairos in prayer!

Prayer Vigils

Leaders, please share these documents with your Prayer Coordinators

  • How to download prayer vigil participants - here
  • How to bulk email prayer vigil participants with prayer points - here

These documents are sent to the Leader and Chair after the first Program Notification form is lodged

(get fresh copies from Bruce at the Kairos Support Office – operations@kairos.org.au)

Raising Awareness

Local Events - Get Involved

KO Sydney attended a women's event in Sydney recently at which they were able to have a stall and promote the Kairos Outside ministry.  They used the new Kairos brochures to share more information and made connections with local churches.

KO Wide Bay Capricorn have also been extremely busy doing presentations and sharing testimonies about the Kairos Outside ministry. One of their long-time volunteers who had been actively involved passed away recently. At her funeral the family shared about her long association with and participation in the Kairos Outside ministry.

The Chair of the Wide Bay Capricorn Regional Committee was also approached to do several presentations. Please join with me in praying for this committee as they seek to refresh and build up volunteer numbers in their Region.

Radio

The radio advertisements on Vision Christian Radio will be continuing to be played three times each day for the next 6 months. We continue to receive enquiries because of this targeted campaign across Australia! Have you heard the adverts? Be ready to tell others about Kairos when they tell you they heard about us on the radio.

Remember, if you are approached for an interview, contact Col Stiller as Chair of KPMA for permission first - chair@kairos.org.au

Church Promotion of Kairos Outside

Please consider placing advertisements in church newspapers and newsletters to advertise your upcoming Guest Weekends. Attached is a sample of a flyer you might like to replicate for such purposes and to also hand out at promotion events you organise.

Our Projects Officer Sarah is more than happy to help you customise a flyer to promote your fund-raising events and your Guest Weekends.  Email Sarah at the Kairos Support Office at projects@kairos.org.au

Keep Us Updated

Notification of Passing

We don't always know when a former or present volunteer or a supporter has passed away and we rely on our Kairos Community to keep us updated.  We know how important it is to update information so that we can modify how we communicate with our Kairos family.

Please click the button below to complete the Notification of Passing form to alert the Kairos Support Office of the passing of a volunteer or supporter. This will enable our Records Manager Bruce Bond to update our data bases in Vega and Google share drives.  Thank you to those who have already filled out the form.
