Greetings Kairos Volunteers!
April was a very busy month for many of us. I was privileged to be invited to attend the closing ceremony at Parklea Correctional Centre on 17 April and to witness the Holy Spirit at work. It was a joyous closing celebrating the ten men who gave their lives to Jesus during the Short Course. I had the opportunity to speak to those gathered to attend the closing and to encourage them to consider volunteering to be on a future team. The invitation was well received. It seemed apt that the closing ceremony was on Maundy Thursday evening. It was certainly a great way to start the Easter worship period. This month I will be travelling to Tamworth to attend their closing ceremony on 15 May and to provide support to the Tamworth Community.
Thank you to those of you who reached out to offer condolences to me on the passing of my mother on 11 April. Your support and prayers were and continue to be, very much appreciated.
This month further work was completed on the Kairos Outside Guest recruitment pilot project. Electronic letters were sent via Vega to 427 churches in Western Sydney, Liverpool and Campbelltown areas. We pray for a positive response from the churches to our invitation to partner with us to provide support to women impacted by the imprisonment of a family member or close friend.
We have also embarked on a project to promote Kairos using radio advertising on Vision Radio (a national radio network). We have quite a few regional committees participating in radio interviews at their local radio station. These have been fabulous ways to inform local communities of the programs we offer.
Our 30th Anniversary webpage is now active and you can register to attend via the online form. I encourage you all to consider attending in person at one of the three events in Brisbane, Sydney or Adelaide or to consider attending one of the rural hubs which we will set up to enable you to watch the livestream in the company of fellow volunteers. There will be more information on this in later newsletters as more details are confirmed but you can register now via kairos.org.au/30-years and you can download a poster to share.
This month's newsletter provides more tools to assist you. I hope that you find them useful.
Thankyou once again for the fabulous work you are doing. I am praying for each one of you. Please join me in the following prayer for our ministry in Australia.
Prayer: We pray for Kairos Prison Ministry Australia as we serve each other and our Lord.
We pray for unity in the body of Christ as we love and respect one another regardless of our differences.
We pray for all volunteers in all the roles within our ministry and that all of us continue to be focused on our Lord Jesus Christ and continue to recognise that we are His hands and feet and that He is the head of our ministry.
