Where your money goes:
Your donation and the money you raise through your fundraising fully funds our policy and advocacy mahi. In May, we wrote to the Minister of Health and Minister of Police recommending alternative approaches to community mental and suicidal crisis across Aotearoa to replace police responding to these situations alone.
We believe Te Whatu Ora – Health NZ and Te Aka Whai Ora - the Māori Health Authority are well placed to support the localities and create community-led responses to crises, which suit their specific needs. These responses should be community based, peer-led and co-designed by tāngata whaiora (people with lived experience) and tāngata Māori. You can find all our submission and policy positions on our website here. If you would like to read more about the Wellington Co-Response Team Evaluation you can check out the report here.

Thank you
While there are things we can do as individuals to improve our own mental health, positive mental health and wellbeing also needs to be supported by creating and promoting safe, strong and supportive communities where knowledge, hope and healthy coping strategies are built and shared. To do this we also need to address systemic threats to mental health and wellbeing such as racism, discrimination, poverty and other forms of social exclusion. Your support of our mahi helps to create an Aotearoa, where all people enjoy positive mental health and wellbeing.
Wishing you, your whānau and friends all the best in these last weeks of winter. Nāku iti nei,
Ali & the Mental Health Foundation team |
